How to Care for Bleeding Gums

Posted .

If your gums tend to bleed when you brush, floss, and even when you eat, then there is a chance you’re not taking proper care of them. It’s very important to take good care of them so you don’t fall victim to gum disease and suffer even more severe consequences. To care for your bleeding gums, our dentist, Dr. Lavanya Gill, encourages you to do the following things:

-Brush regularly: It’s strongly recommended to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush while you do so. Make sure to avoid brushing under or over two minutes because brushing under or over two minutes can harm your oral tissues.

-Floss regularly: It’s very important to floss daily. Flossing removes the plaque that lives between the teeth and along the gumline. Plaque is a substance that attacks the mouth and causes the bleeding gums. It’s vital to remove plaque regularly.

-Attend your checkups: It’s very important to receive a dental cleaning and exam every six months. The cleaning portion of the appointment removes the dangerous substances from your smile that are causing the bleeding gums and other dental issues. So, don’t forget to attend your appointments.
